Building permits in the first five months of the year increased 8 percent compared with the same period of the last year

In the first five months of the year were issued 16,287 building permits for residential buildings, at national level, according to INS data, an increase of 8 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

In May 2018, were issued 4,435 building permits for residential buildings, exceeding with 18.7 percent the figures in April 2018 and by 2.1 percent those from May 2017.

From the regional point of view, in the first five months of the year, increases were registered in West (+473 permits), South-West Oltenia (+303), South Muntenia (+229), Center (+115), North-East (+48) -Est (+21) and Northwest (+19). Decline was observed in the Bucharest-Ilfov development region (-7 permits).

Accoding to INS data, in the 12 months between May 2017 and May 2018, was recorded an increase from 995,226 sqm, to 1,307,695 sqm usable surface with building permit and the number of dwellings went up from 9,694, to 11,950.

The increasing number of building permits in the first five months of the year come almost as a surprise after INS announced a drop of 24.4 percent of the volume of construction for residential sector.
